Within the framework of the WPU Erayim project ‘Empowerment of Women in Rural Areas of Kyrgyzstan’ supported by the Direct Aid Program (DAP) of the Australian Government, 3 Self-Help Groups in the Kara-Suu district were awarded a grant of 450,000 soms at the end of 2020 to support entrepreneurship.

In February of this year, the necessary equipment was purchased in Mady and Ishkavan municipalities to launch the ‘Beekeeping’ and ‘Confectionery Shop’ businesses, and the construction of a greenhouse was started in the village of Shark.

Members of the Datkayim SHG of Mady municipality bought a honey extractor and 20 bee boxes for opening a small business ‘Beekeeping’. Group member Kasiet Adykova said that on April 20 families will buy bees and place them on pastures.

Raikan Azimbekova, the leader of the ‘Arzuu’ Self-Help Group Kyzyl-Kyshtak municipality, said that the members of the ‘Arzuu’ group have ordered necessary equipment for the confectionery shop, which will soon be delivered.

Members of the SHG ‘Raduga’ in Shark municipality have begun the construction of a greenhouse. Group member Rano Yuldashova said that the ‘Ak Zhol’ Self-Help Group, made up of men from the same village, had successfully started work, bringing an excavator and a porter to transport land to help the ‘Raduga’ SHG to build a greenhouse.

Ikram Israilov, the project coordinator, said the project's goal is to help reduce poverty and ensure gender equality in rural areas through the development of women's entrepreneurship.
